Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed the state's budget for fiscal year 2026, amounting to $36.1 billion, which prioritizes education, public safety, and mental health care. The budget allocates $13.5 billion to K-12 education, including a $2,500 raise for teachers, and $3.4 billion to the University System of Georgia. Public safety receives $2.9 billion, with funds directed towards law enforcement, fire services, and emergency management. Additionally, $1.2 billion is designated for mental health care, aiming to expand services and support. The budget also includes $1.5 billion for transportation infrastructure and $1 billion for economic development initiatives, reflecting a comprehensive approach to addressing key state needs.
