  • Bangladesh's interim leader will meet multiple parties on Sunday in marathon talks as he seeks to build unity and calm intense political power struggles, party leaders and officials said. The caretaker government has formed multiple reform commissions providing a long list of recommendations -- and is now seeking the backing of political parties.

In a recent interview with AFP, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus called for unity among political parties in Bangladesh to address the country's challenges and emphasized the need for fresh elections to resolve the ongoing political crisis. Yunus, who founded the Grameen Bank and pioneered microcredit, expressed concerns about the current government's actions, including the arrest of opposition leaders and the suppression of dissent. He stressed the importance of dialogue and compromise to move the country forward, and suggested that a neutral caretaker government should oversee the elections to ensure fairness and transparency. Yunus's comments come amid increasing tensions between the ruling Awami League and the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), as well as international scrutiny over the state of democracy in Bangladesh.
