SYDNEY (Reuters) -Australia's conservative opposition coalition said on Wednesday it would reunite, a week after splitting over policy differences following a resounding election defeat. The Liberal and National parties have shared power for decades in state and federal politics, with the Nationals broadly representing the interests of rural communities and the Liberals contesting city seats. "Our parties are at their best when they work together, to fight, right now as a strong opposition for this ," Liberal Party leader Sussan Ley told a conference.

Australia's opposition Liberal-National coalition has reunited after a week of division, with the Nationals agreeing to end their boycott of party room meetings following a dispute over the Liberals' decision to back a net zero emissions target by 2050. The Nationals, who had been pushing for more support for regional and rural communities in the transition to a low-carbon economy, secured a commitment from Liberal leader Scott Morrison for a $100 million fund to help farmers and regional businesses adapt to climate change. The reunification comes ahead of a crucial by-election in the New South Wales seat of Eden-Monaro, which the coalition is hoping to retain to maintain its slim majority in parliament.
