Nitasha Kaul, a professor of politics, international relations, and critical intercultural studies at the University of Westminster, has accused the Indian government of intimidation and attempting to silence her after her Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card was canceled. Kaul, who was invited to speak at a conference in Karnataka, was denied entry into India upon arrival at Bengaluru airport, where she was detained for 24 hours before being deported. She claims that the government's actions were in response to her criticism of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its policies. Kaul expressed her disappointment and highlighted the incident as an example of the government's efforts to suppress dissenting voices. The Karnataka government, which had invited her, stated that it was unaware of the central government's decision to cancel her OCI card.
