Former Missouri Gov. and U.S. Sen. Kit Bond, a giant of the Republican Party, dies at 86

Kit Bond, who passed away at the age of 84, was a significant figure in Missouri politics, serving as both governor and U.S. Senator. Born in 1940 in St. Louis, Bond graduated from Princeton University and the University of Virginia School of Law. He first entered politics in 1972, winning the race for Missouri governor and serving two non-consecutive terms from 1973 to 1977 and 1981 to 1985. Bond then transitioned to the U.S. Senate in 1986, where he served four terms until his retirement in 2011. Known for his bipartisan approach, Bond was instrumental in bringing federal funds to Missouri for infrastructure and economic development projects. Throughout his career, he was recognized for his work on issues such as agriculture, veterans' affairs, and homeland security. Bond is survived by his wife, Linda Pell, and their three children.
