Democrats have held all of the district's State Legislature seats for more than a decade.
The New Jersey Assembly election in District 4 featured a crowded field of candidates, with incumbent Democrats Paul D. Moriarty and Gabriela M. Mosquera facing challenges from Republican candidates Matthew J. Walker and Denise Gonzalez, as well as several third-party and independent candidates including Michael D. Testa (Libertarian), Maureen D. Dukes (Independent), and Andrew Z. Dukes (Independent). The election results showed a strong performance by the incumbent Democrats, with Moriarty and Mosquera securing significant leads over their Republican challengers, Walker and Gonzalez, who trailed behind. The third-party and independent candidates received minimal support in comparison. The outcome of the election reaffirmed the Democratic hold on the district, reflecting the broader political landscape in New Jersey.
