'Extremely Serious Matter, Please Don't Make it Political': Rijiju Slams Mamata Over Anti-Rape Bill

Rijiju also alleged that the Mamata-led Trinamool government failed to consent to this centrally sponsored scheme under a Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for politicizing the issue of the anti-rape bill, emphasizing that it is an "extremely serious matter" that should not be used for political gain. Rijiju's comments came after Banerjee accused the central government of not consulting states before introducing the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2018, which aims to enhance punishment for rape and other sexual offenses. The Law Minister clarified that the bill was introduced following consultations with various stakeholders and stressed the need for a united, non-political approach to address the grave issue of sexual violence.
