New York City Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander was released from federal custody Tuesday afternoon, hours after he was arrested by officers at an immigration court in Manhattan when he tried to escort a migrant whom officers were attempting to arrest.

On June 17, 2025, federal officers arrested Brad Lander, a mayoral candidate in New York City, as he was leaving an immigration court. The arrest, captured on video, occurred amidst Lander's vocal support for immigrant rights and his criticism of federal immigration policies. Lander was charged with obstruction of justice, stemming from allegations that he interfered with federal immigration enforcement activities.
