Utah became the first state in the country to ban flying the LGBTQ Pride flag in all public school and government buildings, after Gov. Spencer Cox let the bill pass into law.

Utah has become the first U.S. state to ban the display of Pride flags in schools and government buildings, following a decision by the state's Republican-led legislature. The new law, signed by Governor Spencer Cox, prohibits the display of any flag that represents a "political viewpoint," including those symbolizing sexual orientation or gender identity, in public educational institutions and government offices. This move has sparked controversy, with supporters arguing it maintains neutrality in public spaces, while critics, including the ACLU of Utah, claim it discriminates against the LGBTQ+ community by erasing symbols of support and visibility. The legislation has ignited a debate over freedom of expression, the role of government in cultural issues, and the rights of marginalized groups.
