The US is asking EU companies to comply with Trump's anti-DEI order

European companies are facing pressure from the Trump administration to follow a US executive order banning diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. A letter sent by the American embassy in Paris and other embassies around the European Union warns that Donald Trump's order applies to firms outside the United States if they are suppliers or service

The U.S. government, under the Trump administration, has requested that European Union companies operating in the U.S. comply with an executive order aimed at eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training programs that it deems "divisive." This order, issued in September 2020, prohibits federal contractors from conducting training sessions that suggest the U.S. is inherently racist or that any race or sex is inherently superior. The request has raised concerns among EU companies about potential conflicts with their own DEI policies and European laws promoting equality and non-discrimination. Critics argue that this move could undermine efforts to address systemic inequalities and might lead to legal challenges regarding freedom of speech and corporate governance. The U.S. administration insists that the order promotes unity and equality by focusing on individual merit rather than group identity.
