Iran rejects direct negotiations with US and requests proof that it 'can build trust'

Iran has rejected the idea of direct negotiations with the United States, emphasizing that the U.S. must first demonstrate its trustworthiness. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani stated that the U.S. should prove its commitment to international norms and treaties, particularly referencing the nuclear deal from which the U.S. withdrew in 2018 under President Trump. Iran insists that the U.S. needs to show through actions, not just words, that it can be trusted, especially after the reimposition of sanctions which Iran claims have caused significant economic hardship. This stance comes amidst ongoing tensions and calls for de-escalation in the region, with Iran maintaining that any dialogue must be based on mutual respect and recognition of Iran's rights.
