Iowa bill to remove DEI programs in government moves forward

The Iowa House has passed a bill that aims to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within state government, including public universities. This legislation, which has now moved to the Senate, would prohibit state agencies and public institutions from engaging in activities that promote DEI, arguing that such programs foster division rather than unity. Critics of the bill, including Democratic lawmakers, argue that it would undo progress in creating inclusive environments and could negatively impact the state's ability to attract diverse talent. The bill's supporters, however, believe it will refocus government efforts on merit and equality rather than what they perceive as divisive identity politics.
