Bosnia's Serb lawmakers move to block state institutions, EU integration
- SARAJEVO (Reuters) -Lawmakers in Bosnia's Serb Republic regional parliament on Wednesday ordered Serb representatives in state institutions to block decision-making and law changes needed for the Balkan country's integration into the European Union.
Bosnian Serb lawmakers have passed a resolution to block the formation of state-level institutions following the October elections, escalating tensions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This move, led by the ruling SNSD party, aims to prevent the establishment of a new government and parliament, potentially jeopardizing the country's path towards EU integration. The resolution also criticizes the international community's High Representative, Christian Schmidt, for imposing changes to the election law, which the Serb entity, Republika Srpska, considers an overreach. This action could lead to a constitutional crisis and further complicate the already fragile political situation in the country, as it directly challenges the authority of state-level governance and international oversight.
