Tokyo ready to strengthen sanctions against Russia - Japanese Prime Minister

  • President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The parties, in particular, discussed sanctions against Russia, according to the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has expressed Tokyo's readiness to strengthen sanctions against Russia in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Kishida emphasized Japan's commitment to supporting Ukraine and its people. He highlighted that Japan would continue to provide humanitarian, financial, and non-lethal defense assistance. Additionally, Kishida mentioned that Japan would consider further sanctions against Russia, aligning with the G7's collective stance against Moscow's actions. This move comes as part of a broader international effort to pressure Russia to end its military operations in Ukraine.
