A'Ibom NLC accepts 13-month salary proposal after initial rejection

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Akwa Ibom State has accepted a proposal from the state government to pay 13 months of salary arrears to civil servants, reversing their initial rejection. This decision came after a meeting with Governor Umo Eno, where the NLC leadership, led by Comrade Sunny James, agreed to the terms following assurances from the governor. The proposal includes the payment of the 13th month salary in December, with the remaining arrears to be cleared by January 2024. This acceptance was influenced by the governor's commitment to workers' welfare and his promise to address other labor issues, including the implementation of promotions and the payment of gratuities. The NLC had previously rejected the offer due to concerns over the government's sincerity in fulfilling past promises.
