The EFF is waiting for the government of national unity (GNU) to collapse, after which it will swoop and form part of the parties to govern South Africa.

Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has expressed his party's readiness to participate in South Africa's government should the current Government of National Unity (GNU) fail. Speaking at the EFF's 10th anniversary celebration in Johannesburg, Malema criticized the GNU, which includes the ANC, DA, and IFP, for lacking a clear ideological direction and for being a mere power-sharing arrangement. He accused the GNU of being formed out of desperation rather than a shared vision for the country's future. Malema emphasized that the EFF would not join the GNU but would be prepared to step in if it collapses, positioning the EFF as a viable alternative with a distinct ideological stance. He also highlighted the EFF's growth and its role in advocating for the marginalized, asserting that the party remains committed to its principles despite not being part of the current government coalition.
