  • Britain on Sunday announced a 50 million pounds ($63 million) aid package to help vulnerable Syrians after rebels last week overthrew President Bashar al-Assad. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT Millions of Syrians need humanitarian assistance after more than a decade of civil war that shattered much of the country's infrastructure and displaced large numbers of people.

The UK government has announced a £50 million aid package for Syria, aimed at addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the civil war and recent earthquakes. This funding will support the White Helmets, a volunteer organization known for rescue operations, and will also provide food, water, and shelter to those in need. The aid comes as Syria faces its 13th year of conflict, with millions displaced and in dire need of assistance. The package was revealed by Foreign Secretary David Cameron, who emphasized the UK's commitment to alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people amidst the backdrop of international attention on other global conflicts.
