  • ActionSA and the Democratic Alliance in Johannesburg have shared different opinions on Dada Morero's decision to move his offices to the Usindiso Building.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) and ActionSA have criticized Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Dada Morero, for his decision to relocate his offices to the Usindiso Building in Marshalltown, Johannesburg, which was the site of a tragic fire in August 2023 that resulted in 77 deaths. The DA's MPL, Sergio Dos Santos, accused Morero of using the tragedy for political gain, pointing out that the building remains unsafe and uninhabitable. He also criticized the lack of progress in addressing the underlying issues of building hijackings and the welfare of the victims. ActionSA's Funzi Ngobeni echoed these sentiments, calling the move a publicity stunt and highlighting the government's failure to provide adequate support to the fire victims, many of whom are still living in makeshift accommodations. Both parties expressed skepticism about the government's intentions and effectiveness in dealing with the aftermath of the fire and the broader issue of building safety in Johannesburg.
