Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has backtracked on his agreement to pay the new N80,000 minimum wage in December, opting for a 13th month salary instead.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for his refusal to pay the new minimum wage of N40,000 to workers, despite the state's financial capability. The NLC, through its National President Joe Ajaero, expressed disappointment in Obaseki's stance, especially given his previous advocacy for workers' rights. Ajaero highlighted the inconsistency in Obaseki's actions, noting that while the governor had supported the minimum wage increase at the national level, he was now reluctant to implement it in his state. This situation has led to tensions between the state government and labor unions, with the NLC urging Obaseki to reconsider his decision to ensure workers receive their due wages.
