  • President Biden on Thursday will award the Presidential Citizens Medal to 20 individuals at the White House, including former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who has been an outspoken critic of President-elect Trump and some of his allies.

President Joe Biden is set to honor several individuals with the Presidential Citizens Medal, recognizing their contributions to democracy, particularly in relation to the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Among the recipients is former Representative Liz Cheney, who was a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and played a significant role in the House committee investigating the January 6 attack. Other awardees include Capitol Police officers and election workers who faced significant threats and harassment for their roles in upholding the democratic process. The ceremony, taking place on the eve of the third anniversary of the Capitol riot, underscores Biden's commitment to acknowledging those who defended American democracy during a tumultuous period.
