Chavers, who won her third term in June of 2024, will stay in her role as tribal chair until Friday, January 31st. She cited personal reasons for her decision, expressing a desire to spend more time with her family, particularly her grandchildren. Her leadership was marked by efforts to improve housing, health care, and education within the tribe. The Bois Forte Tribal Council will now begin the process to appoint an interim chairperson until a special election can be held.
