Bois Forte Tribal Chair Cathy Chavers is resigning

Cathy Chavers, the Chairwoman of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, has announced her resignation effective January 2024. She cited personal reasons for her decision, expressing a desire to spend more time with her family, particularly her grandchildren. Chavers has been a significant figure in the community, having served as chairwoman since 2016 and previously as a district representative. Her leadership was marked by efforts to improve housing, health care, and education within the tribe. The Bois Forte Tribal Council will now begin the process to appoint an interim chairperson until a special election can be held.
