President Joe Biden will honor former Representative Liz Cheney and 18 others with the Presidential Citizens Medal on January 6, 2024, marking the third anniversary of the January 6 Capitol attack. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have "performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens." Among the recipients are Capitol Police officers, election workers, and state officials who played crucial roles during and after the 2021 insurrection. Notably, Liz Cheney, who was a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and lost her House seat after serving on the committee investigating the attack, will be recognized for her efforts in upholding democratic principles. Other honorees include officers like Eugene Goodman, who famously diverted rioters away from the Senate, and election officials like Michigan's Jocelyn Benson, who faced significant threats while certifying the 2020 election results.
