Waspi women will not receive compensation, Government confirms - Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall apologised for the a 28-month delay in writing to 1950s-born women.
The UK government has confirmed that the Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) campaigners will not receive compensation for the changes to the state pension age. The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) had previously ruled that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) failed to adequately communicate the pension age increase from 60 to 65, and then to 66, affecting women born in the 1950s. Despite the ombudsman's findings of maladministration, the government has decided against providing compensation, stating that the changes were necessary for aligning men's and women's pension ages and that the DWP has since improved its communication methods. This decision has left many WASPI women feeling let down, as they argue they were not given sufficient notice to adjust their retirement plans.
