Kendra Lara, a member of the Boston City Council, was arrested on federal fraud and corruption charges. The charges stem from allegations that she misrepresented her income and assets on applications for rental assistance and food stamps, claiming to be a single mother with no income while she was actually employed and receiving a salary. Lara, who represents District 6, is accused of fraudulently obtaining benefits from the state's Department of Transitional Assistance between 2018 and 2023. Additionally, she faces charges related to a car crash where she was driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle with a revoked license, leading to injuries to her son. Lara has pleaded not guilty to these charges, which include larceny, fraud, and assault and battery.
