The prime minister spoke at a Perth synagogue on Saturday morning, without the media in attendance, in a display of support for the Australian Jewish community.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong have defended Australia's stance on Israel following criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu accused Australia of rewarding terrorism by reversing the recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a decision made by the previous government. Wong highlighted that the decision was part of a broader policy review and stressed Australia's commitment to peace, security, and justice for both Israelis and Palestinians. The Australian government's actions, including voting for a ceasefire at the UN, have been interpreted by some as a shift in policy, but Albanese and Wong maintain that these moves are consistent with Australia's long-standing support for a negotiated peace.
