French Government Collapses After No Confidence Vote

The French government led by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne collapsed following a no-confidence vote in the National Assembly. The vote was initiated after Borne's government bypassed a parliamentary vote on a controversial pension reform bill, which aimed to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. The no-confidence motion, supported by a coalition of left-wing, centrist, and far-right parties, narrowly failed to pass, receiving 278 votes out of the 287 needed. Despite the government surviving the vote, the political instability has led to President Emmanuel Macron dissolving the National Assembly and calling for new elections. This move comes amidst widespread public protests and strikes against the pension reform, highlighting significant public and political opposition to the government's policies.
