  • A fresh political storm has erupted after the Enforcement Directorate named Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in a chargesheet in the alleged money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper

The National Herald case has sparked protests and political sparring between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party. The BJP has criticized the Congress, particularly targeting the Gandhi family's development model, with BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra questioning the source of funds for the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and alleging that the Congress has been involved in scams worth over Rs 48,21,798 crore. In response, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh defended the party, dismissing the BJP's accusations as baseless and accusing the BJP of engaging in vendetta politics. The controversy stems from a 2013 complaint by Subramanian Swamy, alleging financial irregularities in the transfer of funds from the National Herald's publisher, Associated Journals Ltd, to Young Indian Pvt Ltd, which is largely owned by Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
