Moses Wetang'ula, the Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly and leader of the Ford Kenya party, has dismissed a recent court ruling that declared his dual roles unconstitutional as non-binding. The ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) stated that Wetang'ula must choose between his position as Speaker and his party leadership role. However, Wetang'ula argued that the tribunal's decision does not have the force of law and thus he will continue in both capacities. He emphasized that the tribunal's role is to mediate disputes within political parties, not to make legally enforceable decisions. This stance has sparked a debate on the separation of powers and the legal implications of such tribunal decisions in Kenyan politics.
