  • A federal judge early Saturday blocked Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency from accessing Treasury Department records that contain sensitive personal data such as Social Security and bank account numbers for millions of Americans.

A federal judge has blocked X Corp, formerly known as Twitter and now owned by Elon Musk, from accessing sensitive U.S. Treasury Department communications. This decision came after X Corp's lawyers requested access to these materials in relation to a lawsuit against the government, claiming that the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had improperly delayed responses to their inquiries about sanctions compliance. The judge's ruling was based on concerns that X Corp, under Musk's leadership, might not adequately safeguard the confidential information, especially given Musk's public statements and the company's rebranding to "X" which could imply a broader scope of business activities. The lawsuit stems from X Corp's need to ensure compliance with U.S. sanctions while managing its platform's content and user base.
