Greens announce support for Scottish Government budget
- The announcement earlier this month from Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar that his MSPs would abstain on the budget all but assured the plans - announced in December - would pass, but the announcement from the Greens has added certainty to the Government's position.
The Scottish Greens have announced their support for a no-confidence vote against the Scottish Government, led by First Minister Humza Yousaf, following the termination of the Bute House Agreement. This agreement, which had been in place since August 2021, allowed the Greens to support the SNP in forming a government. The decision to end the agreement was made by Yousaf, leading to the Greens' withdrawal of support. Consequently, the Greens are now backing a motion of no confidence proposed by the Scottish Conservatives, which could potentially lead to the collapse of the current government. This political maneuver comes amidst internal disagreements, particularly over climate policy, with the Greens expressing frustration over the government's recent decisions, including the abandonment of key environmental targets.
