AfriForum calls for investigation into deaths of SA soldiers in DRC

AfriForum has demanded an investigation into the rebel attack in DRC in which nine South African soldiers were killed.
AfriForum has called for an investigation into the deaths of two South African soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where they were part of a peacekeeping mission under the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The soldiers, identified as Sergeant Vusimusi Mabena and Corporal Irven Semono, were killed when their Oryx helicopter was hit by gunfire, leading to an emergency landing. AfriForum's Head of Policy and Action, Ernst van Zyl, criticized the deployment, questioning its necessity and the government's decision-making process, especially in light of South Africa's domestic challenges. He also raised concerns about the transparency and the true purpose of the mission, suggesting that the deployment might be more about political posturing than actual peacekeeping.
