  • Physicians would get a 3% Medicare fee-for-service pay increase -- with primary care doctors getting a little more and other doctors getting a little less -- and hospitals would also receive a pay bump if Congress adopted two draft recommendations approved Thursday by the Medicare Payment Assessment Commission (MedPAC).

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) has voted to recommend pay increases for physicians and hospitals in 2025, aiming to address the financial pressures from inflation and rising costs. This decision comes after years of flat or reduced payments, with the proposed increase for physicians set at 1.3% for 2025, and an additional 1.15% for hospitals. The recommendations are part of MedPAC's annual report to Congress, which also includes suggestions for payment adjustments for other healthcare providers like skilled nursing facilities and home health agencies. These recommendations are intended to stabilize the financial environment for healthcare providers amidst ongoing economic challenges. However, the actual implementation of these payment adjustments depends on Congressional approval.
