The Election Commission of India (ECI) has clarified the current procedure for verifying voter lists and names in response to recent concerns and misinformation. According to the ECI, the process involves several steps to ensure accuracy and transparency. Voter lists are updated through a continuous revision process where citizens can apply for inclusion, deletion, or correction of their details. Special drives are conducted to enroll new voters, particularly targeting young adults who have recently turned 18. The verification includes door-to-door checks by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to confirm the presence of listed voters at their registered addresses. Additionally, the ECI uses technology like the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and the Voter Service Portal to facilitate online applications and verifications. The Commission also emphasized that any discrepancies or complaints regarding voter lists are addressed through a structured grievance redressal mechanism, ensuring that the electoral rolls remain up-to-date and accurate.
