The UK has imposed restrictions on its relationship with Georgia following a crackdown on anti-government protests in Tbilisi. The Georgian parliament passed a controversial "foreign agents" law, which critics argue mirrors oppressive Russian legislation and could hinder Georgia's path to EU membership. This law requires organizations receiving more than 20% of their funding from abroad to register as foreign agents, sparking widespread protests. In response, the UK has decided to limit high-level bilateral contacts, reduce support for Georgia's EU integration, and pause certain aid programs. The UK Foreign Office expressed concerns over the Georgian government's actions, including violence against peaceful protesters and the arrest of civil society leaders, urging Georgia to reverse its course to maintain its European aspirations.
