Killeen Police Investigate Series of Robberies and Assaults

KILLEEN, TX - March 10, 2026 - The Killeen Police Department is investigating a series of recent incidents involving aggravated robbery and aggravated assault, raising concerns among residents and prompting an increased police presence in affected areas. Over the past week, authorities have responded to four separate events, two involving armed robberies and two resulting in physical assault, though thankfully no fatalities have been reported as of today.

The first incident occurred on March 6th at a business located in the 2000 block of W. Young Dr. Preliminary reports indicate a suspect entered the establishment and brandished a weapon, demanding money from employees. The suspect successfully fled with an undisclosed sum. Investigators are currently reviewing security footage and interviewing witnesses to develop a suspect description and potential leads. The W. Young Dr. corridor is a high-traffic commercial area, and this incident has understandably shaken local business owners.

The following day, March 7th, a similar aggravated robbery was reported in the 300 block of Commerce Avenue. In this case, a suspect approached an individual, again displaying a weapon and making demands for money. The suspect then escaped on foot, evading immediate capture. The proximity of these two robberies within such a short timeframe has led police to consider the possibility of a single perpetrator or a coordinated effort.

Beyond the robberies, Killeen police also responded to two aggravated assault calls. On March 8th, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Hewatt Drive where an individual was physically attacked, sustaining injuries requiring hospitalization. Details surrounding the motive for this assault remain unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.

The most recent incident, reported on March 9th in the 300 block of N. College Ave., involved a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical fight, resulting in injuries to the victim. The College Ave. area is a hub for student housing and nightlife, and police are exploring whether the incident is linked to any specific establishments or events.

"While we are relieved that no one has been seriously injured in these incidents, we are taking these crimes very seriously," stated Police Chief Randall Bowman in a press conference this morning. "We are dedicating additional resources to patrol the affected areas and actively investigate these cases. We're also working closely with local businesses and community leaders to enhance security measures and promote a safer environment for everyone."

The Killeen Police Department is urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. They stress the importance of being aware of one's surroundings, particularly when walking alone or near businesses after dark. Security experts recommend simple measures such as walking in well-lit areas, avoiding distractions like cell phones, and having a plan in case of an emergency.

The recent uptick in violent crime has also sparked a community discussion about the underlying factors contributing to these incidents. Some residents point to economic hardship, while others suggest a potential increase in gang activity. City officials have indicated they are evaluating social service programs and community outreach initiatives to address these issues proactively.

Police are requesting anyone with information regarding these crimes to contact the Killeen Police Department at 512-507-7388 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 254-572-CRIME (2746). Even seemingly minor details could prove crucial to identifying the suspects and bringing them to justice.

The Killeen Police Department will be holding a community forum next week to address residents' concerns and provide updates on the investigation. Details regarding the date, time, and location will be announced shortly on the department's website and social media channels.
