Killeen Police Investigate Burglaries
Killeen Daily HeraldLocale: UNITED STATES

Killeen, Texas - February 9th, 2026 - The Killeen Police Department (KPD) is investigating a recent surge in burglaries across the city, impacting both residential and commercial properties. Reports filed this week indicate a worrying trend, prompting a heightened police presence and a public appeal for vigilance.
Between Monday, February 5th, and Thursday, February 7th, KPD responded to multiple incidents. One of the most concerning reports originated from the 200 block of N. Wall Street on February 5th. Preliminary investigations reveal that the targeted residence experienced the theft of multiple firearms. The loss of firearms is particularly alarming for law enforcement, raising concerns about the potential for these weapons to be used in further criminal activity. The KPD has classified this case as a high priority, dedicating significant resources to its investigation.
Just two days later, on February 7th, officers responded to a burglary in the 2000 block of West Young Avenue. In this instance, the primary items stolen were electronic devices. While the loss of personal electronics is distressing for the victims, the variety of targets - from firearms to consumer electronics - suggests a potentially opportunistic, rather than specifically targeted, crime spree.
While the situation is concerning, KPD officials have confirmed that progress has been made in one of the investigations. A suspect has been apprehended in connection with at least one of the burglaries. Details regarding the suspect's identity and charges are currently being withheld to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation. However, authorities are actively searching for a second suspect believed to be involved.
"We are working diligently to apprehend the remaining suspect and bring them to justice," stated Sergeant Maria Rodriguez, spokesperson for the Killeen Police Department. "We believe this individual poses a continuing threat to the community, and we are utilizing all available resources to locate them."
The KPD is urging residents to take proactive measures to protect their homes and vehicles. These recommendations include:
- Securing Doors and Windows: Ensure all doors and windows are locked, even when residents are home. Consider reinforcing doors with deadbolt locks.
- Alarm Systems: Installing and activating a home security system can be a significant deterrent to burglars.
- Exterior Lighting: Adequate exterior lighting can discourage potential intruders. Motion-sensor lights are particularly effective.
- Neighborhood Watch: Participating in or forming a neighborhood watch program can enhance community awareness and crime prevention efforts.
- Valuable Storage: Store valuable items, including firearms, in secure locations, such as locked safes.
- Vehicle Security: Always lock vehicles and remove any valuables from plain sight.
Beyond these preventative measures, the KPD is also emphasizing the importance of community involvement. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the police department immediately. Even seemingly minor details can be crucial to solving a crime.
"We rely on the eyes and ears of the community to help us keep Killeen safe," Sergeant Rodriguez added. "If you see something, say something. Your information could be the key to solving these cases and preventing future burglaries."
The recent increase in burglaries has understandably caused concern among Killeen residents. City officials are working closely with the KPD to address the issue and ensure the safety and security of the community. The KPD is also collaborating with neighboring law enforcement agencies to share information and resources, in case the burglaries are linked to criminal activity in surrounding areas.
Anyone with information regarding these burglaries is encouraged to contact the Killeen Police Department at 512-507-7575. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the KPD's online portal, available on the city's official website. The Killeen Police Department is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents, and they are actively working to address this recent spike in criminal activity.
