Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU), its Bavarian sister party Christian Social Union (CSU), and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) have reached an agreement to form a coalition government, as reported by NTV. This agreement comes after weeks of negotiations following the federal election in September 2021, where the CDU/CSU bloc, led by Armin Laschet, secured the most votes but fell short of a majority. The coalition deal, which still needs to be finalized and approved by the parties' members, is expected to see Olaf Scholz of the SPD become the next Chancellor, replacing Angela Merkel who has been in power since 2005. The agreement aims to address key issues such as climate change, digitalization, and social justice, reflecting the priorities of the participating parties.
