2025 Florida legislative session extended: what passed so far, what failed and what's next

Florida lawmakers voted to extend the regular session to June 6 in order to complete the budget and related items. But they will take at least a week off before returning to Tallahassee.

Significant legislation that passed includes a comprehensive education reform bill aimed at increasing teacher salaries and expanding school choice options, a healthcare bill that focuses on improving access to mental health services, and a controversial environmental bill that allocates funds for Everglades restoration but faced criticism for not going far enough. Bills that failed to pass include a proposed amendment to the state constitution regarding voting rights and a measure to legalize recreational marijuana. Looking ahead, the extended session will continue to address unresolved issues, with particular attention on budget negotiations and potential vetoes by Governor Ron DeSantis.
