Salem Stops Twitter/X Account Use For Public Alerts, Updates

The city said municipal information will be shared on social media via Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, and/or Nextdoor.
The City of Salem, Massachusetts, has decided to discontinue its use of Twitter, now known as X, for public alerts and updates due to the platform's increasing unreliability and the introduction of fees for API access. The city had previously used X to share important information such as public safety alerts, road closures, and event updates. Moving forward, Salem will rely on its website, www.salem.com, and its official Facebook page to disseminate information to the public. The city encourages residents to sign up for email and text alerts through its website to stay informed about local news and events.
