The US Department of State confirms Kilmar Abrego Garcia is "alive and secure" in El Salvador's Terrorism Confinement Center.

The U.S. government has confirmed that a Maryland man, mistakenly deported to El Salvador in 2020, is alive and secure. The man, who was in the process of obtaining legal status, was erroneously sent back to his home country despite having a pending U visa application due to his cooperation with law enforcement in a criminal case. After his deportation, his family and lawyers struggled to locate him, raising concerns about his safety. The Department of Homeland Security has now verified his well-being and is working on his return to the United States, acknowledging the error in his deportation.
