  • A Maryland man's efforts to return to the US after being mistakenly deported to El Salvador last month hit a major new roadblock on Monday when the country's president vowed to keep the father of three locked in a notorious mega-prison.

Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a 29-year-old from El Salvador, was arrested in Maryland on charges related to the murder of a 20-year-old woman in Houston, Texas, in 2022. Garcia allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times during an altercation at an apartment complex. Following the murder, he fled to Maryland, where he was eventually apprehended by U.S. Marshals. The case has drawn attention due to Garcia's prior criminal history and the brutal nature of the crime. He is currently awaiting extradition to Texas to face charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
