The U.S. Department of Justice has charged seven Chinese nationals, including hackers and government officials, with orchestrating a cyberespionage campaign targeting U.S. officials, journalists, and companies. The campaign, which began in 2010, involved hacking into email accounts and computer systems to steal trade secrets, intellectual property, and sensitive information. The accused are linked to the Chinese Ministry of State Security and allegedly used sophisticated techniques to breach systems, including targeting individuals with access to valuable information. This operation not only compromised national security but also aimed at gaining economic advantages for Chinese companies. The charges highlight ongoing tensions between the U.S. and China over cybersecurity and intellectual property theft.
