  • 3rd Ward residents haven't had representation on the Flint City Council for more than three months but Mayor Sheldon Neeley says two new ambassadors will bring their concerns directly to City Hall.

Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley has appointed two ambassadors, Ladel Lewis and Quincy Murphy, to temporarily fill the role of the missing 3rd Ward council member, Eric Mays, who was suspended for 30 days following a disorderly conduct conviction. This decision was made to ensure that the residents of the 3rd Ward continue to have representation during Mays' absence. The ambassadors will not have voting rights but will serve as liaisons between the community and the city council, attending meetings and relaying information. This move comes after Mays was found guilty of disorderly conduct stemming from an incident at a city council meeting in April 2023, where he was accused of using profane language and causing a disturbance. The suspension was enacted to maintain order and decorum in council proceedings, and the ambassadors' roles are intended to keep the ward's interests represented during this period.
