King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands visited the Dutch Foreign Ministry where he was met with a significant number of opposition emails from Kenyans. These emails were in response to a controversial finance bill in Kenya, which has sparked widespread protests due to its proposed tax hikes. The bill, which has now been passed, includes new taxes on essential items like bread, oil, and sugar, as well as a new motor vehicle tax and an eco levy on most manufactured goods. Despite the backlash and the protests, which have resulted in at least 39 deaths, the Kenyan government, led by President William Ruto, has decided to proceed with the legislation.
