Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have identified 550 marine species in the intertidal zones along the coastal areas of Maharashtra. This study, part of the "Fauna of India Checklist" project, documented species across various groups including 100 species of mollusks, 100 species of crustaceans, 100 species of fish, 50 species of polychaetes, 50 species of echinoderms, and 150 species of other marine organisms. The survey was conducted in regions like Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, highlighting the biodiversity of these intertidal zones. The findings underscore the ecological significance of these areas and contribute to the broader understanding of marine life in India.
