The Sikh Federation (UK) has expressed disappointment over the Labour Party's failure to address the 1984 Golden Temple massacre, despite a promise from Sir Keir Starmer to support an independent public inquiry. During a meeting with the Sikh community in 2021, Starmer committed to backing an inquiry into the events of Operation Blue Star, where the Indian army stormed the Golden Temple in Amritsar, leading to numerous deaths. Despite this commitment, the Labour Party has not included any mention of the inquiry in its manifesto or made any public statements on the issue. The Federation's chair, Dabinderjit Singh, highlighted the lack of action as a betrayal, especially given the historical context and the ongoing demand for justice among Sikhs. This silence has led to concerns about Labour's commitment to addressing significant issues affecting minority communities.
