Biden extends deportation relief for 900,000 immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine and Sudan
- WASHINGTON - President Joe Biden's administration on Friday renewed deportation relief that currently covers 900,000 immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine and Sudan, a move that would delay any attempts by President-elect Donald Trump to sunset those protections.
President Joe Biden has extended deportation relief and work authorization for approximately 900,000 immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine, and Sudan, allowing them to remain in the U.S. for an additional 18 months. This decision, announced by the Department of Homeland Security, aims to provide stability and protection for these individuals amidst ongoing crises in their home countries. The extension includes Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans who arrived by July 31, 2023, and continues existing protections for Salvadorans, Ukrainians, and Sudanese. This move reflects Biden's commitment to humanitarian considerations, offering these immigrants the opportunity to legally work and live in the U.S. without fear of deportation during this period.
