Coldplay 2025 concert: HC dismisses PIL seeking guidelines against black marketing, ticket scalping
- The Bombay High Court dismissed a plea for guidelines to curb black marketing and ticket scalping at major events, including the Coldplay concert in Navi Mumbai, citing the issue as legislative. The petition alleged irregularities in the ticket sale process on platforms like BookMyShow.
The Delhi High Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought guidelines to prevent black marketing and ticket scalping for Coldplay's 2025 concert in India. The court, presided over by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, deemed the petition as publicity interest litigation rather than genuine public interest. The PIL, filed by advocate Arpit Bhargava, requested the court to direct the government to establish regulations to curb the resale of tickets at exorbitant prices. The court criticized the petition for lacking substantial evidence and noted that existing laws already address such issues. The judges also remarked on the petitioner's failure to provide concrete instances of ticket scalping and suggested that the issue could be better handled through consumer forums or by approaching the police directly.
