Zille defends DA-led Western Cape government, says it does more for Khayelitsha than Camps Bay following Mashatile's condemnation

In his mini-campaign trail in the area, ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile accused the DA of neglecting poor areas in the province, including Khayelitsha.
Helen Zille, the federal chairperson of the Democratic Alliance (DA), defended the Western Cape government's efforts in Khayelitsha, a township in Cape Town, following criticism from Deputy President Paul Mashatile. Mashatile had condemned the DA-led government for allegedly neglecting Khayelitsha in favor of wealthier areas like Camps Bay. Zille countered by stating that the Western Cape government has invested significantly more in Khayelitsha than in Camps Bay, highlighting that the province's budget allocation is based on need, not race or location. She pointed out that Khayelitsha receives substantial funding for infrastructure, services, and development, far exceeding what is allocated to Camps Bay. Zille also criticized Mashatile for making uninformed comments, suggesting that his remarks were politically motivated and did not reflect the actual distribution of resources and efforts by the DA government.
