  • A group of Afghan nationals arrived in the Philippines for the processing of special immigrant visas in order to resettle in the United States.

A group of 114 Afghans arrived in the Philippines on June 14, 2023, to undergo visa processing as part of their journey to resettle in the United States. This initiative is part of the U.S. government's efforts to relocate Afghans who worked with American forces or organizations during the conflict in Afghanistan, following the Taliban's takeover in August 2021. The group, which includes former interpreters, embassy staff, and others, will stay at a facility in Manila where they will complete necessary administrative and security checks before being granted Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) or other forms of legal entry into the U.S. This move reflects ongoing efforts to provide safe passage and resettlement for those who supported U.S. operations in Afghanistan.
